Water breaks into Mir mine of ALROSA, 100 miners underground
MOSCOW, Aug 4 (PRIME) -- Water has broken into the Mir mine of Russian uncut diamond mining giant ALROSA, trapping over 100 miners, the company said in a statement on Friday.
“We’ve developed a plan of emergency response, created a crisis center, and are carrying out the rescue operation. All emergency services arrived to the site of the emergency at short notice, the staff of the mine rescue brigade is working at the site,” the company said, adding that CEO Sergei Ivanov was also on his way to the city of Mirny.
A source in the emergency services of the republic of Yakutia told PRIME that about 150 miners were brought to the surface after the mine had suffered the water inflow, and none of them injured.
